AWJUKEBOX

How can we help?

Fixes for the common snags, short walkthroughs, and a way to reach us. The same help is in the AWOW app under Set up › Help & support.

Troubleshooting

Something not working? Start here.

The app cannot find or control the jukebox

Pairing, NO JUKEBOX, and controls that take a while to land.
  1. Make sure the jukebox is switched on and showing its menu, not starting up.
  2. Put your phone, iPad or Mac on the same Wi-Fi as the jukebox. Guest networks often keep devices apart, so use your main network.
  3. In the app open Set up and choose Scan the jukebox's code, then scan the code on the jukebox's screen. That pairs the app with that one jukebox; there is no account.
  4. Away from home the app goes through AWOW's relay, so a control can take a few seconds to land. The app says when it is doing this.
  5. Still nothing? Switch the jukebox off and on again, then open the app once more.

Putting the jukebox on your Wi-Fi

The jukebox is not on Wi-Fi, has lost it, or you have a new router.
  1. A jukebox with no Wi-Fi puts up its own network called AWOW-JUKEBOX and shows a code on its screen.
  2. Scan that code with your phone's camera, or in the app open Set up and choose Join the jukebox's Wi-Fi. Your phone joins the jukebox's network; nothing to type.
  3. Pick your home Wi-Fi from the list and enter its password. The password goes only to the jukebox.
  4. The jukebox hops over to your Wi-Fi and its own network goes away. Put your phone back on your home Wi-Fi.
  5. New router or new password? Choose WIFI on the jukebox's menu and do the same again.

If the list does not show your network, move the jukebox closer to the router for the setup, then put it back.

AirPlay: the jukebox is missing or drops out

Play from an iPhone, iPad or Mac with no app and no sign-in.
  1. Your phone, iPad or Mac must be on the same Wi-Fi as the jukebox.
  2. Open Control Centre, or the AirPlay button in any app, and pick AWOW Jukebox.
  3. For the best quality from Apple Music pick AWOW Jukebox LOSSLESS: it is classic AirPlay, so Apple Music arrives lossless. Plain AWOW Jukebox is AirPlay 2.
  4. If Bluetooth is playing on the jukebox at the same time, stop it first. The jukebox's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth share one radio, and both at once can drop the Wi-Fi.
  5. Not in the list at all? Switch the jukebox off and on again and wait for its menu.

#airplay

Bluetooth: the phone will not connect

Any phone can play over Bluetooth, even without Wi-Fi.
  1. On the jukebox choose BLUETOOTH so it can be seen.
  2. On the phone open Settings, then Bluetooth, and pick AWOW JUKEBOX.
  3. The jukebox asks on its screen whether to let the phone in. Choose ALLOW.
  4. If the phone says it could not connect, pick AWOW JUKEBOX once more. The first try can time out.
  5. Coming back later and it will not reconnect? On the phone choose Forget This Device for AWOW JUKEBOX, then connect again.

Spotify: the jukebox is not in the list

Play from the Spotify app on any phone on your Wi-Fi.
  1. Your phone must be on the same Wi-Fi as the jukebox.
  2. In Spotify open the devices list and pick AWOW Jukebox.
  3. Not there? In the AWOW app open Set up, then Set up music services, and check the Spotify line. It says what the jukebox is waiting for.
  4. The jukebox's Spotify speaker takes a little while to start after the jukebox switches on. Give it a minute.
  5. Spotify can always play through AirPlay instead: in Spotify pick AWOW Jukebox from the AirPlay list.

YouTube: signing in, searching and playing

Search from the app or the jukebox; sign in with a code.
  1. Search from the app's YouTube screen or from the jukebox's YouTube menu, then pick a song to play now or queue it. The jukebox plays it as sound.
  2. To see your own playlists, sign in on the jukebox: in the app open Set up, then Set up music services, then YouTube, and follow the code the jukebox shows. AWOW never sees your Google password.
  3. Signing in only lets the jukebox read your playlists. It never posts, likes or changes anything.
  4. A song that will not start: try another one. Some tracks are blocked from playing outside YouTube's own apps.
  5. Searches that never finish usually mean the jukebox has lost the internet. Check its Wi-Fi.

No sound, or it is too quiet

Music is playing on the screen but you cannot hear it.
  1. Turn up the TV or amplifier the jukebox is plugged into, and check it is on the right input.
  2. Turn up the jukebox's own volume from the app's Now Playing screen, or with the volume on the jukebox's menu.
  3. Playing from a phone? Its own volume counts too: turn the phone up.
  4. Playing to other rooms? Check each room's volume in the app's room map.
  5. Still silent? Switch the jukebox off and on again.

Speakers and rooms

Play in several rooms at once and keep them in time.
  1. In the app open Set up, then Speakers & rooms, then Open the room map.
  2. Add an AWOW speaker with the code it shows. Every room plays in time with the jukebox.
  3. Set each room's volume on the map, or play everywhere at once.
  4. A room that lags or echoes: open it on the map and tune it. The jukebox plays a short chirp on each speaker and your phone, iPad or Mac listens for it, so the rooms line up where you are. The sound is checked on your phone, iPad or Mac and never recorded or sent.
  5. A room that has gone missing is usually off or off the Wi-Fi. Switch it on, then look again.

#speakers-rooms

Licence key and activation

The jukebox asks for a key after Wi-Fi, or activation did not work.
  1. Your key is in your order email and looks like AWOW-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Keys never contain 0, O, 1 or I, so there is nothing to mix up.
  2. Put the jukebox on Wi-Fi first. It needs the internet once to activate; after that it never checks again.
  3. The quickest way: scan the code on the jukebox's activation screen with your phone's camera. It opens the jukebox's own web page in your browser; paste or type the key there and choose Activate. Or choose ENTER KEY on the jukebox and type it with the joystick.
  4. The jukebox says what went wrong in plain words. 'Could not reach AWOW' means check its Wi-Fi. 'Not open yet' or 'not answering' means your key is fine: try again later.
  5. Moving the key to a new jukebox? The jukebox asks you first, and you can move it yourself twice. After that, contact AWOW support and we will move it for you.

When you contact support about a key, send the jukebox's unit id from its activation screen, never the key itself.

The joystick and buttons

Getting around the jukebox with the joystick and the coloured buttons.
  1. Move around the menus with the joystick. On a two-player panel both sides do the same thing.
  2. On an AWOW cabinet the BLUE buttons choose, YELLOW goes back one screen and RED leaves the jukebox.
  3. On a home jukebox with a gamepad, A chooses and B goes back. Press START and SELECT together to leave the jukebox.
  4. Typing on the jukebox, for a Wi-Fi password or a licence key, uses the joystick on the on-screen keyboard. Back leaves the keyboard and keeps what you typed. For a licence key, your phone's browser is quicker: scan the code on the activation screen.
  5. A button that does nothing: check the screen, which always says which buttons work where you are.

Tutorials

Short walkthroughs for the things people do most.

Set up your jukebox

Wi-Fi, then activation, then your music. About five minutes.
  1. Plug the jukebox into your TV or amplifier and switch it on. It shows a code when it is ready.
  2. Scan the code with your phone. With the AWOW app it opens the app; without it, your phone's browser does everything the app does.
  3. Put the jukebox on your Wi-Fi.
  4. Activate it with the key from your order email: scan the activation code with your phone's camera and enter the key on the web page it opens, or type it on the jukebox.
  5. Add Spotify and YouTube if you use them, or skip them for now.
  6. Press Play. The jukebox starts with whatever you were playing, or a radio station.

Queue songs from the sofa

Search, add to the queue, and skip without getting up.
  1. In the app open Now or Queue and choose Find a song, then pick a source and type what you want.
  2. Choose a result to play it now, or add it to the queue.
  3. Open the Queue to reorder or remove songs.
  4. Play, pause and skip from Now Playing, the lock screen, or Control Centre.

Play from your phone

Three ways in, and none need the app.
  1. AirPlay: from Control Centre pick AWOW Jukebox, or AWOW Jukebox LOSSLESS for Apple Music.
  2. Bluetooth: choose BLUETOOTH on the jukebox, then pick AWOW JUKEBOX in the phone's Bluetooth settings.
  3. Spotify: in Spotify open the devices list and pick AWOW Jukebox.
  4. Whatever plays, the jukebox's visualiser follows it.

Add a room

Put the music in another room, in time.
  1. In the app open Set up, then Speakers & rooms, then Open the room map.
  2. Choose add, and enter the code the new speaker shows.
  3. Give the room a name and set its volume.
  4. Tune it once where you usually sit, so every room lands together.

#rooms

Change the look and the visualiser

Pick how the jukebox and the app look while the music plays.
  1. In the app open Jukebox, then Look and visualisers.
  2. Pick a visualiser. The jukebox changes as you choose.
  3. Pick a theme for the app. Turn on Same look on the jukebox if you want the jukebox to match.
  4. Nothing playing? The jukebox goes back to its plain look by itself.

Send us a report

What a report contains, and how to send one.
  1. In the app open Set up, then Help & support, then Send a report. On the website, see Contact support.
  2. Say what happened in your own words. Leave an email address only if you want a reply.
  3. The app can add a diagnostics summary: versions, whether the jukebox answers, and recent problems. You see every line before it is sent, and you can change or remove it.
  4. Keys, passwords, codes, email addresses, network names and network addresses are taken out before you see it. The jukebox's own report is scrubbed the same way, and you see it first too.
  5. Crash reports are kept only if you turn them on in Help & support, and only sent when you choose to.
